Description

Crispy Halloumi Bites with pesto dip make the perfect appetizer—salty, golden cheese cubes served with a zesty, herby dipping sauce.


Ingredients

For the Halloumi Bites:

  • 8 oz block of halloumi cheese
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Pesto Dip:

  • 1½ cups fresh basil leaves
  • ⅓ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup pine nuts (or walnuts)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Squeeze of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Cut halloumi into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces)
  2. Pat dry with paper towels to reduce moisture
  3. Three bowls:
  4. 1st bowl: seasoned flour
  5. 2nd bowl: beaten eggs
  6. 3rd bowl: panko breadcrumbs
  7. Bread and Fry
  8. Dredge halloumi in flour, dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumbs
  9. Heat oil over medium-high heat
  10. Fry for 1–2 minutes each side until golden brown
  11. Drain on paper towels
  12. Make the Pesto Dip
  13. In a food processor, blend basil, pine nuts, garlic, and parmesan
  14. Slowly drizzle in olive oil
  15. Add lemon juice and salt to taste
